DVLA D4 medical for HGV, what actually happens

Before you train, DVLA wants a medical. People call it the D4. It is a health check with a doctor, not a hospital stay.
What they check
- Eyes. You need to read a number plate from 20 metres, glasses allowed.
- A basic look at your heart and general health.
- Paperwork the doctor fills in for DVLA.
You do not sit an exam. You sit in a clinic.
Do you need to know medical words?
No. We do not ask you to fill in a long health story on our website. The doctor handles their form. If you have a condition, tell the doctor the truth. Hiding it causes worse trouble later.
